March 2011

First thing this month was to fit a red nose for Comic relief.

While at the front of the coupé, I took the chance to fit the tow strap I had waiting. This is attached to the subframe and is tucked out of the way until needed.

On one of the journeys to work, I noticed that the brake lights were intermittent, the problem was traced to a faulty hydraulic brake light switch, so a new one was ordered form Ebay, and fitted. the switch is a Lucas C16062A as used on several cars of the time, such as the Mini and the MG Midget, it has a 3/8"x24 tpi unf thread, hence the strange combination of converters on the car. Next time I'm at the scrap yard, I will have a look for a metric replacement, so I can tidy the fittings up.

Back in February I fitted the external pull handle, but never got around to making a bracket for the inside of the car, this was just a simple angle bracket mounted on the tunnel.

At the same time, I decided to see about making a rear tow strap, so I got a Peugeot 406, rear seat belt, and removed the catch mechanism before unpicking the stitching at that end, this gives me a nice loop with a mounting bracket already fixed.

A lucky bid on some mini parts on Ebay, gave me some spare parts, need to see what's all there, but to be honest all I was wanting was the top arms, to replace one of the front ones on the Coupé
